David Ernster grew up on the banks of the Mississippi River in the upper Midwest. At a young age Ernster began creating sculpture by casting lead into small molds – bringing to life whimsical worlds from the fossils he uncovered. This exhibition shows Ernster’s explorations, interpretations, and many imagined possibilities in clay. Restless will showcase Ernster’s mastery of bold forms and textures. His vessels and sculptural pieces are artifacts that serve to open the vessels of the viewer’s imagination.

Ernster holds a BFA in Metalworking from the University of Iowa and an MFA in Ceramics from West Virginia University. His work has been exhibited extensively throughout New Hampshire and was selected for the 2015 Summer Juried Exhibition at AVA. Ernster, who has taught at Colby-Sawyer College, Kimball Jenkins Academy, Dartmouth College, UNH and many other locations, will be teaching a clay workshop at AVA Gallery and Art Center on June 8, 9, and 15.
