“Archaeology of a Painting”

by Liz deNiord

Friday March 1, 10am, Auditorium A

The D-H Arts program in collaboration with the Aging Resource Center offers monthly “Artist Talks” by local and regional artists about their works currently on display at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center

Join us this Friday for the artist talk – “Archaeology of a Painting” by Liz deNiord

Liz paints in Westminster West, Vermont where she lives with her husband Chard deNiord, Poet Laureate of Vermont. She describes her work currently on display at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, “These abstract works address the distillation of dreams and emotions in a visual language, marking the ordinary as extraordinary, and the smallest thing as notable. Thick layers built with heavily textured surfaces using palette knife transcribe iconographic markings: geometric shapes, voids, the crest. My process is one of multiple layering, scraping, covering up, turning the canvas 360 to undo any preconceived definition. I look to the natural world and to the beauty and mess of daily living. I read, observe and journal to absorb then distill ideas. Paintings emerge from this, addressing the ephemeral and things that cannot stay- things that morph, divide, erode, mutate, reflect, shimmer, disseminate, evaporate, break, fade, dissolve. They are the indicators, entrances, passports.” www.lizhawkesdeniord.com
