Seeing With New Eyes, Online Photography Course, April 22 – May 13, AVA Gallery

Seeing With New Eyes (P20)

Instructor: Carla Kimball

Through a unique mindful approach to photography, this 4 session online course is designed to guide you into a new way of seeing, helping you become more observant and aware of your everyday surroundings while we are all confined to our homes.

After some simple assignments to help you begin to see the ordinary beauty around you, you’ll explore images that capture your sense of solitude, gratitude, and joy.

As you review your classmate’s photos in two-hour, weekly online sessions, the stories of all of our lives, loves, challenges ,and joys will begin to emerge. You’ll also create a simple but highly expressive nine-word poem to deepen the narrative of your photos. The course will end with an exhibit of images and poems to be shared with the public.

Some working knowledge of a camera is recommended. Technological requirements:  A digital camera, access to the internet, and a Google account.

With a degree in Counseling/Psychology and a specialization in Expressive Therapy, Carla Kimball has long known the value of the arts to expand people’s awareness. As a long time practitioner of the contemplative arts (meditation, tai chi, yoga), a facilitator of group experience, and a photographer of ordinary things, she has experienced the power of mindfulness to calm the spirit and of photography to focus the mind.
