Johannes Brahms’ German Requiem, Tuesday, Nov 13, 7PM, Spaulding Auditorium, Hanover

Johannes Brahms’ German Requiem

Tuesday, November 13 at 7:00 PM

Spaulding Auditorium, Dartmouth College, Hanover

The Handel Society of Dartmouth College will perform Johannes Brahms’s choral masterwork, Ein Deutsches Requiem

In his “German Requiem,” Brahms turned personal loss—the death of his mother—into a masterpiece. Based not on the traditional Latin mass for the dead but on German Biblical verses, which Brahms himself chose, Ein Deutsches Requiem is not a requiem for the souls of the dead, but a consolation for those who mourn.

The work has been a favorite since its premiere and continues to receive regular performances. Along with our auditioned chorus of 90 voices, we’ll have a full orchestra and guest soloists from among the finest young classical singers today. Come enjoy this masterpiece and support America’s oldest town-gown chorus!
